Josef Dieter “Sepp” Maier
Sepp Maier was born on February 28, 1944 in the Bavarian region of Germany. He started his professional goalkeeping life in Bayern Munich, one of the Bundesliga teams.
Spending All Life for Bayern Münich
Maier’s Bayern Munich career began in 1966. He won his first cup in Bayern Munich in the 1966 Germany Cup. In the following years, he won the German Cup in 1967, 1969 and 1971. he won countless trophies in Bayern Munich. For example he won the Bundesliga championship in 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1974, the Champion Clubs Cup in 1974, 1975, 1976, the Cup Winners Cup in 1967 and the Intercontinental Cup in 1976. He played 536 matches in 11 years in Bayern Munich. He played for 422 games without a break, but this record has still not been broken. Sepp Maier won the best player of the Bundesliga three times. He is the goalkeeper who received this award the most.
West Germany Legend
Maier also played four times in the FIFA World Cup with the West Germany national team and he won this tournament once. Firstly he won the European Football Championship in the West Germany national team in 1972 and then most importantly won the FIFA World Cup in the West Germany national team in 1974.
Sepp Maier Retirement
Maier ended both his club career and his national career in 1979 and quit football.
