Marcos Evangelista de Morais
Cafu was born in Itaquaquecetuba on June 7, 1970.
His skills came to everyone’s attention just when he was 7 years old, after he joined a football academy. Marcos played at junior squads of some local clubs such as Nacional Atletico and Lusa.
Copa Sao Paulo
He won the Copa Sao Paulo tournament afterward he started playing for the youth squad of Sao Paulo in 1988.
The next year, Cafu started his senior career at Sao Paulo. He won Copa Libertadores 1992 and Intercontinental Cup 1993. Afterwards, he became the South American Footballer of the Year. Cafu played for Sao Paulo until 1995, scoring 6 goals in 95 matches.
Although he joined Juventuda at the beginning of 1995; he ended up at Zaragoza and won the 1995 Cup Winner’s Cup.
Italia Serie A
Marcos played for Roma from 1997 to 2003 right after his short spell at Palmeiras. His years at Roma were also successful for Cafu.
He won Supercoppa Italiana just after winning the Scudetto in 2001. His fans then started calling him “Pendolino”. Two years later, Cafu managed to get into the finals of Coppa Italia 2003.
Marcos signed with Milan in that year, after he appeared in 163 matches for Roma.
Having just a year at Milan, he got the Scudetto, and then Supercoppa Italiana victories. Cafu then had the chance to appear in UEFA Champions League in 2005, when his team reached the finals. Milan then won 2007 UEFA Champions League beating Liverpool by 2-1 in the final match.
During 2007-2008 season Cafu contributed the victories of UEFA Supercup and FIFA Club World Cup.
On May 18, 2008 Cafu played in his last match against Udinese, scoring a goal in the 4-1 victory.
Most capped Brazilian footballer.
Cafu holds the record of being the most capped Brazilian footballer. He earned it after playing in 142 matches and 3 World Cup finals.
Cafu made his debut for Brazil on September 12, 1990 in a match against Spain.
World Cup 1994
He won 1994 World Cup since he played as a substitute in the victory over Italy.
World Cup 1998
Brazil won Copa America and FIFA Confederations Cup in 1997. Afterwards, they got into the finals of 1998 World Cup, then 1999 Copa America victory came.
After the national team beat Germany in the finals, Cafu lifted 2002 World Cup trophy as he was the captain.
World Cup 2006
He played in 2006 World Cup also; unfortunately Brazil got eliminated during quarter finals.
Cafu retired from football in 2008; although he wanted to play in 2010 World Cup.
