Ubaldo Matildo Fillol
Ubaldo Fillol was born on July 21, 1950 in Buenos Aires Argentina. He is one of Argentina’s legendary footballers. He played with the Argentina National Team in the 1974,1978, 1982 World Cups. Ubaldo played in the 1986 World Cup qualifiers. However he could not enter the Argentine National Team’s World Cup squad. He is referred to as the best Argentinian goalkeeper ever.
El Pato’s Club Career
Ubaldo Fillol started his professional goalkeeping career in the Quilmes team in 1965. He played 57 games in this team during 6 years. His starring match was the Quilmes-Huracán match in 1969. In this match, he drew attention with his reflexes and rescues. He made his first penalty save in 1970. He transferred to Racing Club the following season. Ubaldo played 59 games in two years at the Racing Club. He was getting more and more attention. In 1972, he stopped 6 penalties in the Metropolitano Cup.
10 years in River Plate
El Pato was transferred to River Plate in 1973. He played for this team for most of his career. He won many trophies for 10 years; Ubaldo won the 1975,1977,1979,1980 Metropolitano Cups and the 1975, 1979,1981 Nacional Cups. In 1983, it was time to leave for him the River Plate, his which was legendary. He played Argentinos Juniors, Flamengo and Atletico Madrid, one year apart, until 1986. Firstly he won the Tacha Guanabara in 1984 and Tacha Rio in 1985 in Flamengo, secondly won the 1985 Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España) at Atletico Madrid.
Make Racing Club Great Again
Ubaldo returned to Racing Club in 1986, many years later. He played 71 games here for three years and won the Supercopa Sudamericana in 1988.
After this performance transferred to Velez Sarsfield in 1989, ended his goalkeeping career three years later.
Argentinian El Pato
Ubaldo Fillol was first called to the national team in the 1974 World Cup. His second adventure with his national team in the World Cup history was in 1978. He achieved his remarkable success in the national team in the 1978 World Cup. He made great contributions to the championship of his team in that tournament. Ubaldo elected to the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team squad that year.
He received the Footballer of the Year of Argentina Award in 1977, and the Silver ball South American Player of the Year award in 1978, 1983 and 1984.
