Andreas Brehme

Andreas Brehme was born on November 9, 1960 in Hamburg, West Germany. He played in a defensive position throughout his career. The fans gave him the nickname “Das Terrier” because of his hard defensive style and physical strength. He is known as the player who brought the win to the team with a penalty goal scored in Argentina in the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final in the 85th minute.

Stepping into the green fields with Barmbeck Uhlenhorst, Brehme became a professional in 1st FC Saarbrücken in 1980. Brehme, who scored 3 goals in 36 matches, was transferred to Kaiserslautern. He had scored 34 goals in 154 matches in the German club where he stayed for 6 years and showed an unexpected performance from a defender. Brehme, who was transferred to Bayern Munich in 1986, won the Bundesliga championship in his second season.

The player, who served in 63 games in 2 seasons, scored 7 goals. Brehme joined the Internazionale in 1988 with his national team friends Jürgen Klinsmann and Lothar Matthaus. Brehme, who won the Serie A championship in the 1988-89 season and the UEFA Cup after one season, scored 11 goals in 116 games until 1992. When he returned to his country, he preferred his preference to his former club Kaiserslautern. Brehme, who won the DFB-Pokal in 1996, played in 88 games until 1998. When he was 37, he completed his career with the Bundesliga championship. Putting his football career on October 8, 1998, Brehme greeted the tribunes for the last time in the match between Kaiserslautern and the “World Mix”.

Brehme, who started to wear the West Germany national shirt from the age of 24, played his first national match against Bulgaria on February 15, 1984. Three months after his debut on stage, West Germany did not succeed in the 1984 European Football Championship. The national team, which was then entrusted to Franz Beckenbauer, participated in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

Brehme contributed to the country’s rise to the finals with a goal in France in the semifinals. 2 goals scored by West Germany in the final lost 3-2 to Argentina came from the corner kick used by Brehme. In West Germany, who won 1-0 in the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, and received the rematch of Argentina 4 years ago, Brehme scored his third goal in the tournament, which won the cup, from the penalty. Fighting in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, where Germany was eliminated in the quarterfinal, Brehme said goodbye to the national team with 8 goals in 86 matches.
